A unitised piston is a complete piston assembly with a double-acting seal and integrated wear rings. The piston is made from high strength steel and the glass-filled nylon wear rings are moulded onto it, so they are not removable or replaceable. These wear rings are precision machined to suit the cylinder bore, so the extrusion gap is kept to a minimum and piston ‘rock’ is eliminated. A groove is plunged in the centre of the piston into which a filled-PTFE glide ring style of seal is fitted.
